VERO BEACH — Only 6 months old, Social Kaboom Inc. is a digital marketing company that is blowing up quickly.
"We're adding two to three clients a week, which is unheard of in this business," said founder and owner John Garrett.
Based in Vero Beach, Social Kaboom Inc. already has about 50 clients equally divided among local, state and national companies. Social Kaboom provides complete online marketing services and specializes in designing hot websites, social media marketing, search engine optimization and marketing, and video production.
With more than 75 percent of U.S. adults on the Internet tied to a social network, social technologies are changing the way consumers make purchasing decisions and how companies market.
"There's so much that you can do online, you need to maximize your presence," Garrett said. "In this digital age, websites are only half the battle. You need to also engage some of the social network sites, and also use email, newsletters and videos."
Garrett said there are many competitors, "but very rarely do we see any of them."
"There are a lot of people that design websites," said Garrett, who was raised in Chicago and moved to Vero Beach in 1984. "My background is in marketing and sales."
Garrett said Social Kaboom is at the forefront with expertise in leveraging social media tools and platforms that help clients grow their businesses. He said that since he started the company in July, it has grown from four employees to nine. Social Kaboom also employs student interns from Indian River State College, and Garrett said he plans to hire some of them full-time.
Gary Koser, chairman of IRSC's Graphics and Engineering Department, said the students work as interns at several Internet companies in the region, but Social Kaboom offers better opportunities for students to learn practical skills.
Social Kaboom works primarily with small- and medium-size companies using innovative online methods to help increase their business, build their brands, generate leads, and improve customer relations.
John Hawkins, owner of H&H Brands Inc., a California-base salsa maker, said he didn't know anything about Social Kaboom when he hired it recently to build a website for his company.
"They were referred to me by somebody else," Hawkins said.
Garrett said that is typical of most small businesses. "They don't shop around for website services," he said. "It's who they bump into."
Dr. Kim Crawford, a Melbourne resident who is medical director of the Physicians Rejuvenation Center in North Palm Beach, said she tried two other web design companies before hiring Social Kaboom to design her website (www.kimcrawfordmd.com), which she uses to develop a sales and distribution network for anti-aging products.
"That's the case with at least half our clients," Garrett said.
Crawford said she thinks the website Social Kaboom created for her is "the most beautiful website I've ever seen." She [added], "The people at Social Kaboom quickly responded to my questions and were really a lot of fun to work with."
"We're a full-service online marketing company with a singular focus – help our clients grow their business," [Garrett explained.] "To do that, we have brought together some of the most talented digital media people in the area, along with great sales and marketing personnel, and a terrific support staff."
Mark Ballard, the leader of Social Kaboom's creative team, was formerly creative director for Redgate Communications, and later America Online.
"Mark has initiated online marketing as well as traditional marketing campaigns for many Fortune 500 companies," [Garrett said.]
