SBT: Gunman's face captured in family photo taken by victim

A strange but true story:

Gunman's face captured in family photo taken by victim

Philippine police arrested two suspects in the shooting death of a politician after seeing the face of the alleged gunman in a photo taken by the victim moments before the attack.

The photo was taken on New Year's Eve outside the home of Manila district Councilman Reynaldo Dagsa, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reports.

The picture, which ran on the newspaper's front page, shows Dagsa's wife, daughter and mother-in-law standing beside the family's car. The faces of the family were blurred at the family's request.

A gunman, wearing a baseball cap, is shown bracing himself against a vehicle and pointing his weapon at Dagsa. In the right corner is a person police identified as the assassin's lookout.

Police said the two suspects were arrested Monday, the Associated Press reports. The alleged gunman was a car thief out on bail who probably sought revenge against Dagsa for ordering his arrest last year, according to authorities.

Dagsa's wife and daughter told reporters they did not realize a gunshot had gone off because of firecrackers exploding all around them in celebration of New Year's Eve.

They reacted only after Dagsa fell to the ground. He died en route to a hospital.
