Discovery is expected to launch tomorrow (though rain seems to be holding that launch). I watched many of these from my home(s) in Daytona Beach, and on breaks from classwork at shcool. From home, I watched the Challenger explosion in the sky on a sunny Daytona day in 1986.
Check out this Space Shuttle info collection, centered on the Discovery mission just after Columbia exploded on re-entry. They were scrubbed until July 2006 after that flight. Of particular interest, the link "Shuttle Missions, 1981 - present."
