I am fairly certain that, while one can tend to know -- with half a brain -- that a job sucks, the best way to be certain that you were the least contributor to your misery in a bad job situation is to look at it after having left.
That is, if you think your job situation sucks really bad, but are not the type to instantly presume that only, or primarily, OTHERS are to blame, you'll be sure once you get out of the blight on your existence and move onto a better job, in a better place, with better coworkers, and better bosses.
Think about it: hindsight, as is said, is 20/20. Crap jobs are usually the result of more than one thing. And usually, the supervisor you hate is the leading problem -- who can work for a bona fide nut-job or sonofabitch and not be a little miserable, no matter how much of a cowering wimp they are?
This is, you might have guessed, coming from someone who has had some downright crappy bosses in the past, and is currently enjoying good, reasonable and RATIONAL bosses and pleasant enough coworkers. My how a job change can radically affect life.
