that would have caused losses down the supply and employment chains,
had the Bush and Obama teams not helped. That is the essential
conclusion to the book. I think people knew this. Ford would still be
around, of course, while GM and Chrysler would have been in bankruptcy
for years or dissolved. The company leaders and managers, and the
unions' leaders, would have earned the trouble. The employees, maybe
not so much. They would have suffered most in a less cushioned hole.
Not as if that weren't an obvious coming event, though!!! If I lived
in Detroit, I'd have moved long ago: talk about a broken system.
Another conclusion of the book: taxpayers will likely never see a
return of all the billions supplied to the auto industry.
I think their employees and managers all need to deal with snarky
collections calls and letter for at least ten years, since that's what
the rest of us would be saddled with.
