A 2nd generation Apple iPad is coming in spring 2011

A new iPad is coming. Which means, for some, the old model iPad will come down in price to an attractive level. The WSJ notes the company that produces them, and other interesting facts:

... The new iPad is expected by Apple watchers to debut in the next couple of months at a similar price range as the current iPad, though exact details couldn't be learned. It currently costs between $499 and $829.

Piper Jaffray & Co. estimates Apple will sell 27 million iPads in 2011, and some investors expect as many as 35 million units in sales. "It's going to be a critical growth driver," said Gene Munster, an analyst with Piper Jaffray.

Like many of Apple's other products, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., better known by its trade name Foxconn, is assembling the new iPad, the people familiar with the matter said. ...

The iPad is revolutionizing on-the-go computing, and being followed by Dell and others with the Windows platform. It is being pushed as a tool for general aviation pilots (owner/pilots, and professionals), and for a whole lot more. I have been eager to buy a new laptop, as my vintage PowerBook G3 is now more than ten years old and almost at death's door (I haven't upgraded a thing inside of it for years).
 
I thought I'd hold off for an iPad, and I waited out the first year to learn any standout problems or dislikes with them. Great for "idea-mongering," looking up reference material on the fly (on WiFi), and for writing either news or fiction, or plays, music, etc. On the fly. Or, on the couch, as it will be sometimes.
